naptime/nap time

You know those snapshots of memories you have from being a little kid? They're like out-of-context memory drops. And they're so sensory - like you don't just remember that it happened, but you can relive it happening.

Like, I've got a snapshot of me playing with blocks at daycare and feeling the tears well up in my eyes wanting my mommy to be there, and looking up at the door just in time to see her walk in and run and pick me up. I remember Amanda Hood, my next door neighbor, getting brand new butterfly nets and me accidentally poking a hole in them with a stick.

I remember closing my eyes one night and reopening them and it being morning already, but it was instantaneous. I kept telling my parents that I had JUST closed my eyes - that it couldn't be the next day already. It tripped me out.

Of course, that happens all the time now. I don't even know why I hit snooze in the morning. It costs me an extra 15 minutes and it only feels like 10 seconds of sleep.

Well, today, folks, today was different. I went down into the parking garage to take a nap in my car during my lunch break. I had 35 minutes. I slipped in my chair, lowered the back, set my alarm, and put on the blackout visor.

I dreamt like 8 separate dreams. I even woke up at one point and it felt like I was in bed at home. I think it was that sleep paralysis thing that's supposed to go away when you wake up, but sometimes it's residual. That was a bonus, too. Because it was like, man, I thought I was in an uncomfortable car seat, but obviously I'm a giant womb (giant womb, ew, gross).

Then I woke up in what had to be at least 2 hours later. I panicked a bit and threw off my visor. But it was only a minute before my alarm was set to go off! Yaaaaaaahoo! How does that work? I could have sworn I was out for a looong time, but only 34 minutes passed. I mean, I feel like I should be interrogated by James Woods (Contact reference).

Science needs to figure out how to recreate that. Do it! And because it's like sleeping in a wormhole or something, we can call it "Sleephole" (or "Wormsleep" - whichever one's more marketable).

Seriously, how about it, science? (Jack Handey reference)

That accidental hole poking is such a Darren thing to do. I love it...
